TRINITY (WATERLOO) EPISCOPAL CHURCH
August 27, 2007

Attendance: Fr. Skip, Scott Wren, Pat Cullison, Anna Gorzo, Susan Hall, David Larson, Anthony Genovese, Sherry Volkmar, Tim Loboch, Chuck Stafford

The meeting opened with prayer and the reading of the Gospel.

The Vestry discussed how to invite the poor to the picnic. Pat and Tim will go to the Copper Stallion and Broadway Motels, which serve as home for people, to invite them to the picnic.

The minutes were approved as written.

Rector's Report:

A large tree fell across the front drive on Sunday. Scott Wren, Stephen Hall and Bill Fields cut it into pieces and moved it off the drive. Tim Johnson will remove it.

Peggy White's funeral will be on Friday August 31, 2007 at 11 am.

Michelle Uhler will run Sunday School for this year. There will be a single multi-age class for children and Fr. Skip will teach the adult education class. Sunday School will occur between 9:00 am and 9:45 am, between the services. Volunteers are always needed.

The first Habitat organizational meeting will occur Tuesday November 4. There may be a fall trip (Nov 5-10, 2007) to Biloxi. In addition, they are planning a trip in May 2008 and a trip to New Mexico for the summer of 2008. There may also be a trip to Panama at some point in 2008 or 2009.

Fr. Skip will participate in Credo II, sponsored by the Episcopal Pension Fund.

Barney Farnham is not well. He asks for cards and notes only (no visits or calls).

Carl Lancaster noted the development of housing around Arundel Mills and asked how we can attract newcomers. Chuck, Scott and Pat will look at the cost of multiple mailings.

The Diocese assessment for 2008 will be $15,797.03; we will appeal.

Senior Warden's Report:

Pat asked that the Vestry be mindful of the need to ensure that the thermostats are lowered (or raised, as season dictates) and that doors are securely locked when leaving the church. Also, those hosting coffee hour should be reminded that they should tend the thermostat, turn off all lights and ensure that all doors are locked before leaving.

Junior Warden's Report:

The Eagle project is complete. The location of the utilities required that the pad be repositioned. The paper dumpster will be moved to the pad within the month.

Habitat will be working on an Association of Retarded Citizens (ARC) house on September 29. All are welcome to participate and should contact Scott about specifics.

Brad Dunst will cut the grass until we establish a long term plan. Lowes has a Troy Built zero turn radius 42 inch deck mower for about $2300, which could work for us if the field were not so rough. Scott will ask Brad whether he can level the field. It would need to be done in the fall and seeded so that the freshly turned soil will settle without ruts before the 2008 mowing season begins.

Treasurer's report:

The Vestry reviewed the General account and the Memorial Fund account.

We are growing closer to the use of Quickbooks to generate the Treasurer's Report.

Chuck will check with the county regarding why the church continues to pay an annual sewer assessment. These assessments are generally levied when the sewer is hooked up and end in 20-25 years. We believe that it should be near its end.

New Business:

Johanna Som de Cerff suggests a pot luck game night and story telling for children at 5:30 on Saturday November 10.

Herb has ordered stewardship material for this year.

Anna will do a spaghetti dinner in October (date to be determined soon).

Old Business:

The boy Scouts want to use the hall on Tuesdays but the Little Schoolhouse theatre group has it each Tuesday until April. Scott will see if something can be worked out or the scouts will need to relocate.

The meeting adjourned with a prayer.
